| Comments | Match Report Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Keith 4 Ross County 0 From all accounts, there was never four goals of a difference between Ross County and Keith in their Highland League match at Kynoch Park, on Saturday, but Keith were prepared to take their chances, and when they are presented on a plate, who can look a gift horse in the mouth? There was never four goals in it, two maybe, but never four, and that the final total did become a quartet, might well serve as a salutary reminder to Ross County that their second defence of the Championship title is going to be hard-fought campaign with no quarter asked or given. Reports from the lads, who were there say that County could well have been three goals up before Keith scored. The gilt edged opportunities were presented Alan Duff and Andy Macleod, one-to-one with the keeper, but unfortunately the chances went wide. Keith breathed again, and came back with a vengeance, when SUTHERLAND opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Noting that Hutcheson was off his line, the Keith forward lobbed the ball into the net from all twenty yards for a spectacular opening goal. County were still pressing forward, and producing some good football, with their supporters' confidence on a high, but the equaliser eluded them. In the second half, what seemed legitmate claims for penalties were turned down by the referee, and Duff, who had been taken down in the first instance, had his name taken for protesting too much. A second Keith goal came in the 60th minute, when YEATS chipped the keeper from a Gibson cross. County pressure on the Keith goal increased, but keeper Thain coolly gathered in efforts from Duff and Spiers. In a deadly two minutes in the closing stages of the game--the 88th and 89th-- BREBNER executed the coup de grace, nodding home a Leslie cross and then racing through from the centre-line to hit the ball past Hutchison. |
