| Comments | Match Report Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Buckie Thistle 1 Ross County 3 It is not often that Ross County can visit Buckie and return with full points in a Highland League fixture, but they did just that on Saturday, on a day, which heralded the return to goal-standard of the club's deadly duo Brian Grant and Alan Duff. Each scored a goal apiece. One recalls the corresponding fixture in Buckie just a few short months ago in a mid-week tie played in a strong wind with a touch of snow in it. It was a bleak night for County who went down 0-2, although they had chances galore to save the day. A win at Buckie is a great feather in County's cap, and their cup will be filled to overflowing if they could account for Huntly tomorrow (Saturday), when the Strathbogie club visit Dingwall. Robbie Williamson is to have a leg in plaster for the next six weeks, and will be an absentee from the scheme of things for a deal longer as he endeavours to return to full fitness again and a place in the team. Robbie damaged an ankle in training last week, and aggravated an earlier injury. Scott Lemmon, who sustained a broken leg just a year ago exactly against Cove, is continuing his progress to the top again, and has been proving a great asset to the young reserve team, which has four victories to its credit, and is two points clear at the top of the North Caledonian League. At Buckie, in the absence of Williamson, Bobby Wilson paired Samdy Macleod with Johnston Bellshaw in central defence, a combination which did not get off to a great start, when FINDLAY put Buckie in front with a header, which beat Hutchison all ends up in 45 seconds. However, the County defence buckled to, and by half-time were leading by two goals to one. Brian GRANT headed the first from a Ferries cross in the ninth minute, and in the 30th minute, BELLSHAW crashed home a powerful header from ten yards following a free kick. Five minutes after the interval, Alan DUFF's looping header gave keeper Innes no chance after slack marking by the home defence gave the striker space. This was the cushion County required, and they settled down to produce some of the entertaining football they have been presenting over the past number of seasons. |
