| Comments | Match Report Report from the Ross-shire Journal. Forres Mechanics 1 Ross County 4 Ross County had a far from convincing first half in their P and J Highland League match with Forres Mechanics at Forres, on Saturday, and for periods of the first half struggled. The home side opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when Hutchison fumbled a cross from Loch, and DAVIDSON slotted the ball home. During this period County were put under all sorts of pressure by their opponents, who effectively controlled midfield. Outstanding for Forres was defender Steve Mackay, who had an inspired game, intercepting passes, breaking up promising moves, and playing his part in the leading up to the Forres goal. However, during the second period, Ross County recovered their composure, and within a minute of the re-start, had levelled the scores. Brian Grant shot a ball into a ruck of players and it broke to Alan DUFF, who whipped it home. In another minute County went into the lead as DUFF took the next step towards a hat-trick. Again Grant was the provider of a perfectly flighted cross from the by-line, which his colleague headed into the net. Forres were unsettled, and in the 63rd minute, Duff completed his hat-trick. Gordon Connelly tried to hook a shot from Cammie Robertson into the net, but the keeper deflected the ball and it broke to DUFF, who bulleted it home. Forres were reduced to ten men, when substitute Macleod was stretchered off with a knee injury minutes after taking the field. Gordon Connelly completed the scoring in the 82nd minute, when the keeper was caught out of position on the edge of the box, as he cleared from Grant and scrambled back to his goal-line. CONNELLY took the ball and simply stroked it into goal. |
