| Comments | Match Report Report from the Press & Journal. Ross County 10 Nairn County 1 After a whirlwind start with two goals in six minutes, champions Ross County scored almost at will in this Press and Journal Highland League match at rain-swept Victoria Park. With Gordon Connelly dictating things in the middle for Ross and also scoring a hat-trick, Nairn were rarely in it. But star of the scoring show was last season's North top scorer Brian Grant, who hit five. In the first raid, GRANT slid the ball home from a Ferries cross and four minutes later GRANT was on the mark again, with Connelly the provider. Somerville hit a post before Andy MACLEOD lobbed the keeper in 28 minutes. CONNELLY got into the act five minutes from the interval CONNELLY headed goal No. 5 in the last minute of the half. A well-worked free kick saw CONNELLY get his hat-trick to be followed by another GRANT goal in 78 minutes. Nairn's consolation came from a Ken MACKAY penalty, but 10 minutes from time DUFF made it 8-1. In the last minute, GRANT got his fourth and substitute ROSS took County's score into double figures. |
