| Comments | Match Report Report by Andrew Henderson for the Ross-shire Journal Ross County 3 Ayr United 3 Ross County and Ayr United played out a 3-3 draw in a back-and-forth game in Dingwall. It was The Honest Men who took the lead through Ethan Walker midway through the first half, only for Ronan Hale and Jordan White to turn the game on its head with two goals inside a minute. White would then claim his second of the afternoon early in the second half, but Ayr would fight back from their two-goal deficit to level the game courtesy of Scott McMann and Curtis Main. Ayr took the lead in the 23rd minute when Mark Mackenzie’s cross from the right flank found Ethan Walker in plenty of space inside the County box. Although he was closed down, he kept his composure well to shuffle the ball out from under his feet and pick out the bottom corner for his fourth goal of the season. Right on the half-hour mark, County would get themselves back on level terms. Ryan Duncan’s long ball forward was timed perfectly for Ronan Hale to beat the offside trap, and he cut on to his right foot bearing down on goal before slotting past David Mitchell to equalise. If that put Ayr on the back foot, the Staggies wasted no time in taking advantage. Less than two minutes later, Jordan White put the home side ahead with a header from a couple of yards out, taking full advantage of Duncan’s free kick being headed back into a central area by Declan Gallagher. Shortly after the restart, County extended their lead. First it was Gary Mackay-Steven’s sweetly struck effort from the edge of the box that was blocked, leading to Ryan Duncan following up with a blocked effort of his own. Ayr could not clear their lines though, and White pounced to volley into the net and open up a two-goal advantage over the visitors. There would still be further twists in the tale though, as Ayr would cut the deficit in half in the 65th minute. After a bit of pinball inside County’s box, Scott McMann did well to find a yard of space and shoot through a crowd of bodies and past Trevor Carson to make it 3-2. In the 71st minute, Ayr equalised. A corner created havoc in the County defence, with Akil Wright being needed to clear one effort off the line before substitute Curtis Main brought the game back to parity. It was then the visitors who looked most likely to find a late winner, but no further breakthrough would come as both sides had to settle for a point apiece. |
