Ross County 0 Brechin City 2
Third Division Brechin City will go into this morning's Bell's Challenge Cup semi-final draw after shocking Ross County at Victoria Park last night.
First Division County were handed a wake-up in 17 minutes when veteran Roddy Grant nodded Brechin in front.
County boss Neale Cooper made two changes at half-time but his side looked little better and Brechin continued to look the more likely winners, putting the outcome beyond doubt in 85 minutes when Alan Kernaghan thundered home a stunning second goal to seal County's fate.
Delighted Brechin boss Dick Campbell said: "There are very few games in a manager's career when he say every player was magnificent but that was the case tonight. The CIS League Cup tie here next month will be a different ball game and for now we're just looking forward to what the draw produces for us."
Angry County boss Cooper said: "If I could have made 10 substitutions I would have. We were dross, with the possible exception of Tony Bullock.
"We lost a scrappy goal early on and after that we showed no presence at the back, no invention in midfield, and no threat up front. Brechin deserve full credit for their performance.
They looked anything but a Third Division side."
There was a four-minute delay late in the first half when referee Ian Fyfe pulled a muscle and had to hand his whistle to stand-side assistant Roddy Cobb.
Cooper made one starting change to the side which beat Raith Rovers 1-0 on Saturday to break the Dingwall side's First Division duck, bringing in youngster Steven Mackay for John McQuade, while Brechin fielded the players who beat East Stirling 3-1 to maintain their 100% league start.
Brechin went in front in 17 minutes when Grant sneaked in at the back post to score.
Brechin could have doubled their lead in 26 minutes when Smith cut inside from the right and unleashed an 18-yard shot which had Bullock at full stretch to touch the ball over the bar.
Riley headed a 20-yard shot from Perry off the Brechin line on the half-hour and Templeman passed up a great chance a couple of minutes later, chipping the ball into the side-netting from close range when it looked easier to score.
Cooper sent on skipper Steve Ferguson and Derek Holmes for the start of the second half.
Bullock had to pull off a superb reflex save in 70 minutes to deny Grant.
Brechin got the second goal they deserved in 85 minutes to round off an impressive performance when King swung in a corner and Kernaghan rifled in a first-time volley from 25 yards.
