Dundee 0 Ross County 5
Malky Mackay says Ross County's five-goal beating of Dundee - their biggest-ever top-flight victory and first of the season - "had been coming".
Goals from Harry Clarke, Ross Callachan and Joseph Hungbo plus a Regan Charles-Cook double secured the rout.
It lifts Mackay's side to within a point of their hosts at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.
"I genuinely think in the last four or five weeks that we've been the equal of any team we've faced," Mackay said.
"It's just been a matter of time. I'm not saying we could have won 5-0 - but turn a performance into goals. I'm really delighted with the performance."
After a relatively quiet opening period, it was the home side who showed the first signs of a breakthrough. Charlie Adam fired towards goal and a clever Paul McMullan flick almost caught out County goalkeeper Ash Maynard-Brewer.
Unfortunately for the home side, they soon capitulated. County began their charge through the brilliant Clarke, who drove towards the box and cut inside Jordan Marshall before curling the ball with the outside of his boot into the top corner.
That signalled the beginning of total domination for the visitors as they attacked in waves.
James McPake's home side could not handle the constant pressure and that was underlined by some dire play between Adam Legzdins and Lee Ashcroft to make it 2-0.
The defender's backpass put goalkeeper Legzdins under severe pressure from Jordan White, who blocked the attempted clearance straight into the path of Callachan for a simple finish into an empty net.
The away side did not let up as Hungbo scored the pick of the goals, rocketing a free-kick into the top corner from 30 yards to put his team in total control.
The home crowd voiced their disapproval with boos ringing around Dens Park as McPake attempted to stem the damage by substituting Paul McMullan for Danny Mullen, but it would be to no avail.
Charles-Cook added a fourth shortly after from a Connor Randall cross to further enrage the Dundee support.
The second half continued in the same pattern, with County enjoying the majority of possession and frequently threatening the Dundee goal.
Charles-Cook got his second to wrap up a resounding victory, finishing off a neat move to fire low into the bottom corner.
Even the most optimistic County fan would not have seen this result coming, but Mackay's men fully deserved their first win of the season with some scintillating football.
Clad in their all yellow away kit, onlookers would be forgiven for thinking a re-run of Brazil 1970 was on, such was the quality of their play. The result finally brings the win their play has merited at times this season.
For Dundee, the previous two games had brought some positivity but that has been completely wiped out with this embarrassing defeat.
The home fans made their feelings clear and were rightly incensed with what they saw as the pressure cranks up on McPake in the dugout.
Dundee manager James McPake: "This is probably as disappointed I've been in a game of football. We were second to every ball, we were second all over the pitch, everyone right through. It was a really bad night.
"I can't stand here and defend anything in the game. There's been a lot of games this season, even when we've not won, where I've been able to come out with my head held high, back my players, back my staff and back myself. Tonight's not one of those nights but I've got real belief in myself and the staff and the group of players as well."
Ross County managers Malky Mackay: "It was a complete performance tonight, I'm very proud of them.
"I'm delighted for the players who have scored, but I'm also delighted with the defenders for keeping a clean sheet."
