| Comments | Match Report Report by Jack Herrall for the BBC. Ross County 1 Dundee United 1 Jack Baldwin rescued a deserved and crucial point for Scottish Premiership bottom side Ross County to deny Dundee United at the death in Dingwall. Louis Appere's strike opened the scoring for Thomas Court's side but Baldwin's tap in dramatically levelled the game in the 94th minute. The intervention came after Harry Clarke was sent off for the hosts in the closing stages. County now sit three off Dundee at the foot after their win over Motherwell. Dundee United missed the chance to climb to within three points of the summit of the Scottish Premiership. A blanket of snow was cleared off the pitch before kick-off and it seemed to take both sides a while to warm up to the occasion. Ian Harkes' tame curling effort was the first attempt on goal of note, but Ashley Maynard-Brewer wasn't called upon as it was blocked by a sea of bodies in the box. Florent Hoti then stepped up and unleashed a palm-stinging strike from 25-yards out with his left foot which called Maynard-Brewer into action this time, who was more than equal to it in the County goal. A well-worked Ross County set-piece allowed Harry Paton to hit a powerful strike from the penalty spot area, but his shot was remarkably headed off the line by Ryan Edwards who was in the right place at the right time. Blair Spittal then had an effort from inside the box saved by Benjamin Siegrist who got down well to deny the County man his second goal this week. Charles-Cook found himself free at the back post just before half-time and, despite an impressive first touch, his shot from a tight angle was hit straight off Siegrist. However, it was the visitors who would take the lead after the break. Maynard-Brewer blocked an initial attempt well, but the ball dropped to Appere for his first of the season. Despite four County defenders crowding him inside the box, he was still able to take a touch, turn on the ball and slot it into the net leaving the keeper with no chance. County pressed for an equaliser as Spittal's powerful drive from the left-hand side of the box stung the palms of Siegrist. Baldwin then had a header crash off the bar after beating everyone in the United box to the ball. The game looked beyond County as Clarke received his second yellow after he was deemed to have jumped up with his arm first into the back of Hoti's head. However, the hosts were not done yet. In the dying seconds, Joseph Hungbo swung in a free-kick which missed everyone as it flashed across the face of goal, but Baldwin slid in at the back-post to tap it home. Benjamin Siegrist was called upon on numerous occasions to bail out United and was the main reason Ross County had to wait so long for a leveller. The hosts continued their performance levels of late and didn't give up in their pursuit of an equaliser. Charles-Cook, Spittal and Paton all provided a creative spark going forward for the home side this afternoon. This should give them hope as the festive fixture flurry ramps up. Ross County manager Malky Mackay: "I think a point was certainty just desserts. Overall, we're disappointed because I thought we were excellent today. "I think in the end we got a good point but a neutral, in the cold light of day, would say we deserve that win." Dundee United manager Thomas Courts: "On the balance of play, a draw was probably a fair result, but when you're in front and we've had a number of 1-0 victories, you'd maybe expect the boys to see it through. "It's a very difficult venue, their performance levels have been good, they're a decent team. We never established the level of control we normally have this season, we didn't capitalise and that was disappointing for us." |
