| Comments | Match Report Report by Ritchie McNab for the Press & Journal. Fraserburgh 0 Ross County 0 Fraserburgh's Scott Murray has given Aston Villa three very good reasons why they should sign him. On Thursday night the Mintlaw youngster turned out for the Villa Park reserve side against Bolton Wanderers and scored a superb hat-trick within the space of 15 minutes. News travels fast and Murray's performance was hastily noted by another of his admirers, Premier Division leaders Rangers, who have again been in touch with Broch chairman Jim Adams only to have received a cool reception. Adams said: "Rangers had the player for the best part of a week and Murray did play a full 90 minutes against Clydebank in a reserve league fixture. Surely they could have made a decision one way or another during that period and to keep both club and player hanging on is quite ridiculous. "As far as we are concerned, the ball is now firmly in Aston Villa's court and we can only wait and see what manager Ron Atkinson's intentions are and, hopefully, he will be in touch with the club this week." Saturday's evenly balanced encounter saw Ross County play their last Press and Journal Highland League fixture at Bellslea Park and, despite the lack of goals, there was a lot in the way of attacking football and goal-mouth incident. Ross County brought in reserve keeper Ross Cathcart for the injured Steve Hutchison, who received a shoulder injury in Wednesday's game with Lossiemouth, Young Dave McKay retained his place while Chris Somerville made an impressive comeback after a long period of suspension. Fraserburgh, however, can be well pleased with their contribution and there are encouraging signs of a return to the early season form that saw them reach two cup finals. Keeper Billy Gordon was in a confident mood while full back Scott Clark hardly put a foot wrong. Keith McCreadie and Merino Keith were the strong men in midfield while Paul Keith was a continual source of trouble to the Dingwall defence. Fraserburgh manager Charlie Duncan praised Ross County: "What an excellent side they are. They are without doubt the finest footballing side the North has produced for years. "For us, it's the same old story. We are just not scoring goals." Ross County manager Bobby Wilson said: "I though we deserved to take something from the game but it's the same old thing. We have been creating chances and not able to put them away. "It is hard to believe that it is four weeks since we scored a goal and the last one we scored was against Caley in the second round of the North of Scotland Cup at Telford Street. |
