Ross County 4 Inverness Thistle 2
Ross County maintained their bid for their third title in four seasons--but only after struggling Thistle came close to repeating their Inverness Cup upset win at Victoria Park.
The visitors led 2-1 with 20 minutes to go before "Thistle in Blunderland" episodes turned the tide.
Full marks to the Dingwall men for a powerful rally but, despite having waves of pressure throughout the match, they will not consider this one of their better performances.
Thistle had their moments but keeper Jim Calder mixed fine saves with two astonishing errors.
County took the lead in 20 minutes when Calder fumbled Wilson's low cross and DUFF slotted it into an empty net.
But within a minute they were equal again when Iain POLWORTH chipped home a beauty from the edge of the box.
This triggered a spell of clever play by Jags and after several near things they took the lead in 31 minutes with a splendid solo goal from Steve BREMNER who ran through, cut inside a defender, and left Hutchinson helpless from 14 yards.
County piled on the pressure after the interval and Sandy MacLeod three times was foiled point-blank by Calder in one incredible scrimmage. Then Somerville saw his drive brilliantly touched on to the bar by Calder.
But the keeper blotted his copy book in the 70th minute when he raced 35 yards out of his goal only to miskick and give possession to SOMERVILLE, who gleefully advanced to roll it into an empty net.
Grant should have put County ahead but the ball struck between his legs in the mud only three yards out.
In 76 minutes, however, Billy Wilson's blunder let in Barry WILSON who kept cool and slotted it neatly past Calder.
Sweeney needlessly pulled down Andy MacLeod in 85 minutes but Calder continued his mixed match by saving the penalty kick.
CONNELLY, always a menace, completed the scoring in the final minute when he dribbled round the keeper.
Andy MacLeod of County was the night's only booking.
