Inverness Thistle 3 Ross County 1
League Champions Ross County crashed to their successive defeat last night as Qualifying Cup shock troops Thistle produced a gritty performance to maintain the Kingsmills revival.
Grantown joiner Colin MacLean hammered two nails in County's coffin and his non-stop running was an inspiration to Jags.
But the talking point for the 1,000 fans was the pair of bizarre goals County conceded as a result of back passes.
It was so different at the start, with the Dingwall men looking fast and clever and Robbie WILLIAMSON, switched to midfield, faced through on his own to put them ahead in six minutes.
Thistle got back in the game in 21 minutes when Christie's long free kick skidded off Sandy MacLeod's head to MACLEAN who cracked a beautiful angled drive high past the keeper.
Ten minutes later Bellshaw was short with his pass back and MACLEAN nipped in between him and Hutchinson to slide Thistle into the lead.
Tommy MacDonald hit the bar early in the second half while Calder had a great save from Grant.
But County hopes of salvaging something were wrecked 20 minutes from time when, in a moment of madness, keeper Hutchinson advanced to the edge of his box and tried to chest down Campell's pass back only for the ball to bounce over his head and trickle into the empty net.
There was no way back for the champs as chase-everything Jags finished wall in command. Sweeney and Bell of Thistle and Andy MacLeod of County were booked.
