| Comments | Match Report Report by Eilidh Davies for the BBC. Ross County 2 Partick Thistle 0 Ross County capitalised on Ayr United dropping points to return to the top of the Scottish Championship after beating Partick Thistle. Billy Mckay's penalty - his 14th of the season - after Daniel Jefferies pulled down Don Cowie gave them the lead, And the second came from Ross Stewart, who curled in a fine shot following an assist from Josh Mullin. The best chance for the visitors fell to Aidan Fitzpatrick, whose 18-yard shot was just inches wide. Ross County co-manager Stuart Kettlewell: "Partick Thistle were excellent. They are one of the better sides we've played here. "I thought we were very resilient when we had to be and clinical when opportunities came. It's also nice to look at the league table and see that you go top but it's very early days. "From my angle, it looked like a penalty. I would very much doubt someone like Don Cowie goes down without any contact." Partick Thistle manager Gary Caldwell: "The players gave everything and controlled large periods of the game. Another ridiculous decision goes against us in an already difficult away game. "I think everyone in the stadium didn't think it was a penalty. I know Don, he's not a dishonest lad but he's tried to read the contact and go down and the contact doesn't come and the ref falls for it. "Our reaction was first class - we kept pushing, we kept controlling the game, creating good chances. We just couldn't put it in the net - it's been the story of our season so far." |
