Comments	Match Report Report by Hamish Rankine from the Raith Rovers Website Ross County 2 Raith Rovers 0 A blustery and dreary trip to Dingwall ended with defeat for the Rovers on Saturday after a 2-0 scoreline awarded Ross County with their first win of the season. A goalless first half still produced some promising opportunities for Raith, but County would go on to take some chances of their own in the last twenty minutes to clinch all three points on the day. Barry Robson made two changes to his team after the side’s commanding win against Arbroath a week earlier, with Jai Rowe and Kai Montagu earning places in the starting eleven. Richard Chin missed out through injury, whilst Paul McMullan took a place on the bench. Callum Smith appeared as a substitute – marking his return from an eleven-month long injury spell. Raith Rovers got the match underway, but it was Ross County who had a chance to open the scoring early on after a misplaced back pass put Ronan Hale through on goal. The striker miss-hit his effort from over forty yards out though, which allowed Josh Rae to awkwardly clear the danger. Raith came close in the 10th minute after smartly working a corner to Ewan Wilson in the penalty area. The left-back let fly from close range, but County’s defence was on hand to block the goal-bound effort. The match slowed down soon enough, with a handful of small opportunities making up the remainder of what would be a goalless first half. For the second half, Raith attacked into the stand that they so memorably filled with yellow in their promotion play-off push over sixteen months ago. The stand in question now lay deserted on this occasion, after storm-induced chaos got in the way of most would-be travelling supporters. Most fans who had planned to make the trip could only read or listen as Raith put a bit of pressure on The Staggies’ goal in the second half. A combination of comfortable saves and some commanding defending prevented Raith from finding the net though. The hosts relentlessly crossed the ball into the Rovers’ box in the 73rd minute and, eventually, their break came. The ball bounced around the area after Rae made two saves in quick succession, but Ross County succeeded at the third attempt after Miller Thomson turned the ball in from only a few yards out. Raith couldn’t have come closer to finding an equaliser as the match drew on, with Substitute Josh Gentles and Ross Matthews both getting their respective efforts on goal past veteran keeper, Trevor Carson. County defenders were on hand to miraculously produce two goal-line clearances however – much to the dismay of the brave travelling support. Ross County ultimately went on to seal the deal in the closing moments of the match when Ronan Hale was put through on goal. The striker did well to evade Raith’s defence before finding the bottom left corner in the 91st minute. The referee brought the afternoon’s affairs to a close a matter of seconds later, which also signalled the end of the first quarter of the league season. Raith currently sit third in the league, but Ayr have the opportunity to take that place via a game in hand. The Rovers could put a dent in those plans this weekend however, with Ayr travelling to Kirkcaldy for a league match on Saturday.
