| Comments | Match Report Report from the North Star. Elgin City 2 Ross County 1 There was another two new faces at Elgin on Saturday when a second half Jamie MacPherson goal was not enough to cancel out two first half strikes by the City side. New striker was Frenchman Emmanuel Soulay, recommended to County by his countryman and recent Ross sighing Frank Escalon. Soulay (24) was on from the start and impressed although for long spells he lacked support. In the middle of defence was former Partick Thistle player Jim Slaven who also showed up well as an effective stopper but would appear to be in need of some serious training. Neale Cooper, who was confined to quarters with a bad cold while his troops were at Elgin, said this week that Slaven, who is in his mid-twenties, has been playing for a junior side recently but could be an acquisition to County's ranks. "He hasn't played many games lately and we will be having another look at him." said Cooper. Slaven could well answer County's defensive problem as it's a known fact that the middle of defence has not been their strongest position this season. Injuries continue to thwart County and as well as longterm absentees Billy Ferries and Johnstone Bellshaw first team players Billy Herd, Willie Furphy, Roy McBain, Mark Haro and Kenny Gilbert are all side-lined at preset with one kind of injury or another. |
