| Comments | Match Report Report from the Press & Journal. Ross County 3 Airdrie United 1 Sean Higgins has warned next opponents Falkirk that Ross County have no intention of being unwilling wallflowers at the Bairn's title party. The Dingwall players had to listen to Bairns celebrating the Bell's Cup final triumph back in November. With Falkirk able to clinch the championship and promotion to the Premier League this Saturday, County have a major incentive to pull off a surprise victory at the Falkirk Stadium. Higgins who capped a superb second-half display with two clinical finishes in County's victory against Airdrie United at the weekend, said: "We have had some excellent games against Falkirk this season, but maybe not taken what we've deserved. We go there next and we are well aware they can win the title by beating Ross County. "That's a massive incentive for us. Falkirk are a really good side and we'll need to be at the top of our game, but there is no way we want to be listening to them celebrating in the dressing-room next door. "We've already been there after a bitter disappointment in the Bell's Cup final, when we felt we maybe deserved to win the game." Having come from behind to beat Airdrie at Victoria Park, Alex Smith's side has now taken 10 points from 12 and retains hopes of closing the five-point gap on third-placed St Mirren. County were stunned when Airdrie effortlessly took the lead in the second minute with their first attack. Owen Coyle and Jerome Veraille cut through the home defence with a one-two and Alan Gow stabbed the ball home from six yards. Don Cowie grabbed the equaliser in the 44th minute after Higgins's pass split the Diamonds defence. After 57 minutes, County were ahead. Higgins first struck a post from the left of the penalty area, but followed up to fire home from the corner of the six-yard box. The forward was again lethal with the third in the 78th minute. County manager Alex Smith said "We can take a great deal of satisfaction from the way we have pulled away from trouble in recent weeks," Airdrie manager Sandy Stewart said: "Two of the goals we lost were ridiculous-sloppy. Nothing's settled as far as relegation goes and these players should know they are playing for contracts, if nothing else." |
