| Comments | Match Report Report from the Press & journal. Forfar Athletic 1 Ross County 4 After Extra Time. Forfar put a brave fight against First Division Ross County at Station Park last night, but the Dingwall side's superior firepower and fitness ultimately told. Aaron Conway hit a late equaliser for the Loons to cancel out Sean Webb's opener and force the tie into extra time, but goals from David Winters, Sean Higgins and Steven McGarry saw County through to second round of the CIS League Cup. County made the breakthrough in the 18th minute. A free kick was floated into the box and Webb steered a looping header beyond goalkeeper Neil Ferrie. Forfar Worked their way into the game in the second half and County goalkeeper Ian MCaldon did well to turn away a low drive from John Voigt. Barry Sellars and David McClune both went close before the Loons levelled in the 84th minute, Conway turning on the ball inside the box and drilling a low shot into the net. While that was a late blow, the visitors enjoyed the perfect start to extra time when they regained the lead after just 38 seconds, Winters tapping in from three yards after McGarry crossed the ball in from the right. The loss of that quick goal Rattled Forfar. Poor marking allowed Higgins to hammer home an unstoppable drive from a tight angle in the 112th minute, before McGarry made it 4-1 minutes later as Ross County swept through the tired Forfar defence. |
