| Comments | Match Report Report by Andrew Henderson for the Ross-shire Journal. Ross County 2 Raith Rovers 0 Ross County closed the gap to safety in the Scottish Championship with a 2-0 win over Raith Rovers. The Staggies took full advantage of set-pieces against the Kirkcaldy outfit, with both first-half goals from Jordan White and Uche Ikpeazu coming from dead ball situations. Trevor Carson at the other end did not have much to do, with the home side eventually easing to victory in Dingwall. County thought they had taken the lead in the 13th minute from a set-piece. Jay Henderson sent a pinpoint deliver in towards the back post from a deep crossing position, where Declan Gallagher had a free header and sent the ball past Josh Rae in the Raith goal – only for the assistant referee’s flag to be raised for offside. Without much separating the sides, the Staggies did go ahead in the 33rd minutes. It came from another set-piece, with Sean Mackie’s corner not being cleared around Raith’s six-yard box and Jordan White wriggling free of his marker to fire home. A succession of corner kicks around five minutes before the interval eventually told for County as they scored a second. Mackie had caused a lot of trouble with the first few, but the breakthrough came from the other side where Henderson picked out Uche Ikpeazu at the far post to head in. Much of the second half was about maintaining control and ensuring Trevor Carson would not be threatened, but County still posed problems for their visitors on occasion too. In the 73rd minute, Ikpeazu got on the end of another cross, albeit it a tight angle, with his effort flashing across goal before going wide of the mark. There were no more goals to speak of before the referee blew the full-time whistle, leaving County fans checking how their victory impacted the league table. Airdrieonians also picked up three points, meaning County remain bottom of the table, but Queen’s Park were beaten by Dunfermline Athletic meaning just two points now separate the bottom three teams. |
